Sweeney Todd is a musical about a
barber who is wrongly accused of a crime he didn't
commit by Judge Turpin, a man who envy's the life of
Benjamin Parker's.(also known as Sweeney Todd) He
returns to London as a new man named Sweeney Todd and
starts his journey of murdering innocent clients,
after learning that his daughter and wife are gone.
Todd is committed to killing Judge Turpin for
transporting him, and finally ends up getting his
wish. Only after Todd's friend Anthony Hope falls for
his daughter Joanna, and ruins his first chance of
killing Turpin. A beggar believes that Sweeney is
killing people and the pie maker downstairs
Mrs.Lovett is too. After slashing the beggar's throat
he learns that Mrs.Lovett has been lying to him the
whole time by telling him that his wife died of
poison, when the beggars was actually his wife. The
movie ends with Sweeney holding his dead wife in his
arms and the little boy, that master has died because
of Sweeney, slitting his throat.
Johnny Depp stars as Benjamin
Parker who is taken away from his family and
transported, and out of anger rebuilds himself into
Sweeney Todd. Like many other Tim Burton films,
Sweeney Todd is dark, weird, and surprisingly very
entertaining. I never thought a musical about
killing people would be even a keep my attention
like this one did. Johnny Depp was amazing in this
movie and really showed his versatility as an
actor. The music is addicting, the suspense is
entertaining and the characters are the kind of
thing that you hate so much you end up loving it.
Even though, I thought it was one of the best
movies of 2007, you have to be into the musical,
dark, strange, Tim Burton thing. For me, it was all
about Johnny Depp. He really delivered this movie
so well, and did a great job of making you feel the
characters pain, and that doesn't even include his
singing! I've never heard Johnny sing, and I don't
think that they he should make his own record, but
for a movie with a $50 million budget.
Helen Boham Carter, who is wife of Tim Burton,
actually did a pretty good job also. Overall, she's
not that bad of a singer, most of her songs were
very catchy, upbeat, and something you'll be
humming as you leave the theatre.
In the end, Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet
Street was probably the best movie I, personally,
have ever seen. I suggest you go see it.
Juno is a movie about a teenage
girl who get pregnant and the journey she takes to
self discovery and baby delivery. She ends up giving
the baby up to a single mom who has just gone through
a divorce of her "really cool" husband.
This movie,overall was really
good. I liked it a lot. Michael Cera was amazing in
it. Especially with those shorts he was wears
through the whole movie. I loved him in Superbad
and he really outshined himself in Juno. Cera, who
plays the boyfriend to Juno and the father's baby
daddy, was funny, smart and very cute. Although, he
didn't have as much screen time as I would've
liked, Michael made this movie for me. Getting to
look at that cute face for 2 straight hours, and
hearing that sweet voice, just makes me want to see
it over and over again.
Now, lately I've heard a lot about Ellen Page, who
played Juno MacGuff. I think she is a very pretty
girl. Being the star she had a lot of screen time
and I thought every second of it was genius. I'm
not exactly sure is it was the script, or just the
acting, but something about her makes me laugh. She
has a great sense of humor, and she's very pretty.
I just hope she wins the Golden Globe for this
movie.
Jennifer Garner's last movie Catch and Release,
wasn't as good as it was built up to be. After
seeing that I didn't exactly know what to expect.
But she was very good in this movie. Her character
though was kind of bland, but I think she portrayed
it well. Garner didn't really have that many funny
lines, but she did have some scenes that make you
want to cry. Overall, her performance was very
heartwarming.
Alison Janney, well what can I say? She was amazing
in Hairspray and amazing in this. I've always been
a big fan of hers, and this just made my liking of
hers even bigger. She was funny, smart, and had
that sense of a smart ass to her. I think she gave
about 50% of the humor in Juno.
Overall it was a good movie, I really liked it. The
only part I could've done without was the big kiss
between Michael Cera and Ellen Page. :) Just
Kidding! Juno is a movie for anyone, and teaches
girl the real risk of getting pregnant in a fun
way!
